Report By: Nandika Chand | Last Updated June 3, 2020

A major blast in an agro-chemical factory in Gujarat left 40 workers with burn injuries this afternoon. People living near the plant in Dahej, an industrial area, were moved to safer areas as the chemical fumes and fire is very poisonous.

Bharuch Collector, MD Modia said the incident happened at Yashashvi Rasayan Private Limited in Dahej Industrial Estate of Bharuch district. He said a blast in the boiler was caused by a huge fire. “All injured persons have been shifted to hospitals in Bharuch and efforts are on to control the fire,” the collector said.

More details to the incident is awaited. There have been reports of 10 fire trucks trying to contain the fire. Eye witnesses said the fire engulfed the entire factory and residents of two nearby villages have been evacuated.

Last month about 200 people were hospitalized and 11 died in Andhra Pradesh’s Visakhapatnam district because of a chemical leak in a LG Polymers plant. The lethal gas leak affected 1000s of people amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

We’ve always been this way.
