BJP Sweeps In UP & Uttarakhand, Fails To Conquer Punjab
New Delhi
Report by :Pradip Bhattacharya
11/3/2017
Despite Exit polls results declared in favour of BJP in Assembly elections in UP, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa, Manipur, the ruling party could only sweep polls in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The party got wiped out totally with its ally Akali Dal in Punjab. In Goa and Manipur, it is in the neck-to-neck race with Congress, ho Despite media and critics trying to wipe out image of Rahul Gandhi, Rahul although did not campaign so well for Goa and Punjab, yet the Congress got back its hold in two states of Punjab and Goa, The only factor that kept Modi wave intact in UP was due to issues like violence against women which was very rampant, and BJP’s ‘Triple Talaq Issue’ announcement which favoured Modi. Former chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav lost because of the family quarrel in last minute of election which favoured BJP to its maximum advantage, Although Akhilesh did commendable infrastructure job in UP, but ditching of veteran Samajwadi Party leaders( uncle and its clan) to Akhilesh, could not win people trust. BSP which was considered to make a steady comeback in UP along with BJP failed to take any formidable lead. The Hindutva factor by Yogi Adityanath and Ram Temple factor too did pave way for BJP to gain maximum seats in UP. In addition, the Triple Talaq factor helped to gain Muslim votes for BJP. Who will be Chief Minister of UP is still very uncertain? Will Yogi Adityanath be made Chief minister as he can keep the Hindutva factor intact for years to come, people are hopeful Adityanath be given the chief minister post. Congress President Rahul Gandhi could have got more seats if his sister Priyanka Gandhi had toured the UP battlefield with Rahul. But that did not happen and hence BJP took another feather in its cap. In UP, BJP claimed 321 seats while SP-Congress alliance bagged 51-6 seats respectively while BSP bagged 19 seats. In Manipur, Congress took lead over BJP by bagging 28 seats while BJP finished second by winning 22 seats. In Uttarakhand, out of total 70 assembly seats, BJP won 56 and Congress got wiped out by winning 12 seats in its fold. In Punjab, Capt. Amarinder Singh factor gave a real jolt to the ruling BJP-Akali Dal alliance where the Congress Party won 76 seats and AAP stood second on the list by winning 23 seats and the Akali Dal-BJP alliance was wiped out by winning 15-3 seats in the party fold. In Manipur, no party claimed majority ( 31 seats) and the same trend continues in Goa now. In Goa, Congress is in advantage with 19 seats while BJP finished second by winning 13 seats. AAP party could not open an account in Goa. Counting is still in process in Goa and Manipur. Congress seems to take a lead in both Goa and Mianipur.

Because we’re journalists, we’re impatient. We want to gather the news as quickly as possible, using any technological resource available. And when we’re as sure of the story as we can be, we want to share it immediately, in whatever way reaches the most people. The Internet didn’t plant these ideas in our heads. We’ve always been this way.
