With Sasikala likely to be released from prison in August, AIADMK senior D Jayakumar has made it clear that she and her family have no place in the party. The Tamil Nadu Fisheries Minister said the party’s stand is consistent.
“The party’s view is based on the decision already taken. Our stand is consistent yesterday, today and tomorrow, it will hold good. Sasikala or her family have no place in AIADMK or the government. There is no change,” Jayakumar said.
Sasikala, who was a close aide of the late CM J Jayalalithaa, was convicted in 2017 in a disproportionate assets case and was sentenced to a four-year jail term. Last month, the coordinator of BJP’s documentation and library department Aseervatham Achary had tweeted that she was likely to be released in August from the Parapana Agrahara prison. This kicked off a political storm.

In 2017, Sasikala was unanimously appointed as the interim general secretary of the AIADMK. She was then removed from the post by the party’s general council. Sasikala had got Edappadi K Palaniswami elected as the leader of AIADMK who went on to become Tamil Nadu’s chief minister.
