Gurugram: A Muslim man was thrashed by 4 unidentified assailants on Saturday night for wearing a traditional skull cap. He was returning from the local mosque in Sadar Bazar area, after offering namaz.
The victim, Mohamad Barker Alam also said that he was made to say “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and was forced to chant “Jai Shri Ram”, which he refused to do.
He is a resident of Jakob Pura, in Gurugram, but originally belongs to Bihar.
He has also alleged that the 4 men, who remain unidentified till date, asked him to remove the traditional skull cap that he was wearing.
“The accused threatened me and said that wearing the cap is not allowed in the area. They removed the cap and slapped me. They asked me to chant ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’.
Following their instructions, I did that. Then they also forced me to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’, which I refused to do.
After that one of them picked a baton up and mercilessly beat me on my legs and back” said the 25-year-old.
When they started beating Alam up, he shouted for help, and as it was an area with a mosque in the proximity, a number of Muslims from there rushed to help him. The attackers saw people coming and fled the spot.
