Karnataka: Man who made derogatory remarks against Prophet Mohammed PBUH in viral video, arrested

Tumkuru: Tumkuru Police on Wednesday arrested Atul Kumar alias Madhugiri Modi for making derogatory remarks against Prophet Mohammed PBUH and posting it on social media platforms earlier this month. Atul Kumar was arrested from Azad Nagar area of Anantpur here on Wednesday.

Atul is reportedly a resident of Madhugiri’s Hobali Honnapur village.

Following protests against his video and remarks against Prophet Mohammed PBUH in Tumkuru and Madhugiri, Superintendent of Police Dr. Vamshikrishna had formed to police teams to arrest Atul, police have seized two mobile phones from Atul after his arrest.

Several complaints were filed against Atul Kumar at various police stations of Madhugiri, Tumkuru, Chitradurga, Gangavati, Shivmoga, Kodagu and Dakshina Kannada District, adding that his video promoted communal hatred and was compromising with peace and harmony.

The police teams were operating in Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh for arresting Atul Kumar. SP Dr. Vamshikrishna congratulated the police team on arresting Atul Kumar and lauded their efforts.
