India saw a major leap in COVID-19 as it recorded 6,000 new cases in the last 24-hours. These new infections come as some states including the national capital, New Delhi eased lockdown as well as special train and resumption of flight services.

Now, India has 118,000 confirmed cases and a death toll of 3,853. The state of Maharashtra leads the worst-hit states tally with 41,642 cases and death toll of 1,454. Second is Tamil Nadu, with 13,191 COVID-19 cases and third is Gujarat with a record of 12,539 confirmed cases.

Experts predict further spike in novel coronavirus cases across India especially since the movement of a large number of people was allowed. And this has been observed in last week’s surge. Over 30,000 new cases have been recorded after May 15.

Health Ministry officials said doubling rate of COVID-19 cases was 3.4 days when lockdown started. Now its 13.3 days at present.
