Bhopal: Pragya Thakur, popularly known as Sadhvi, a Bharatiya Janata Party candidate is contesting in the upcoming elections from the Bhopal constituency and Maharastra’s Riyaz Deshmukh has decided to contest against her.
Pragya Thakur has many allegations against her regarding the the 2008 Malegoan blast and some statements that she passed on Hemanth Karkare, the former Anti-Terrorist squad chief, during a public meeting which took place recently.
She claimed that Hemanth Karkare died after she had cursed him.
“I had told him, you will be destroyed and he was gone in less than 2 months, during 2008 Mumbai attack”. She says.
These statements of her offended a large number of people, including Riyaz Deshmukh, a close associate of Karkare, due to which he filed his nominations, against Sadhvi.
He says that he wanted to avenge the insult to Hemanth Karkare.
“After Sadhvi filed her nomination from Bhopal, I made up my mind to contest against her because I cannot see anyone maligning the image of one of the finest and most upright officers in Maharastra”.
Says Riyaz Thakur, a retired assistant commissioner of the police (ACP).
He served Maharastra police for almost 3 decades, as a sub-inspector from the 1986 batch and was posted as a probationary officer in Akola with Hemanth Karkare. He was one of Karkare’s deputies and said that Karkare always guided him in all professional matters and always stood by him. They remained in contact till the Mumbai ATS chief was killed in the 26/11 attacks.
Deshmukh retired in 2016 as ACP, Amravati and has ever since been living in Aurangabad He currently owns a web portal started by him, called ‘dilligatenews’, offers counselling services in legal cases to civilians and servicing policemen. His affidavit says he is a ‘free-lancer and blogger’.
Deshmukh is contesting as an independent candidate and might get a ‘whistle’ as his poll symbol.
