Heavy to very heavy rainfall predicted till 12th Aug across Idukki, Wayanad
Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 10: Kerala Government has given permissions to District Collectors to hire a necessary number of bulldozers, generators and lights in relief operations. The officials were instructed to provide food, water, clothes and toilet facilities for the people staying in relief camps. The service of doctors has been ensured in the camps.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan described the situation as “very grim” with army columns being deployed at Ayannkulu, Idukki and Wayanad.
At least 26 people have died in Kerala due to heavy rains and landslides, the Home Ministry said.
Five members of a family lost their lives in Idukki’s Adimali town. Two persons were pulled out alive from the debris by the local people and police.
Around 600 cusecs of water were discharged from the Idamalayar dam this morning, with the water level rising to 169.95 metres against the full reservoir level (FRL) of 169m. The water level at Idukki dam was 2,398 at 8 am, 50 feet against the FRL of 2,403 feet. The administration has been put on high-alert.

Kerala CM P Vijayan will do an aerial survey of flood-hit areas tomorrow.
CM P Vijayan has instructed to alert the people living in downstream areas with the help of announcements. He has also instructed to relocate people living in vulnerable areas.

All 5 shutters of Cheruthoni Dam have been opened. People in Cheruthoni town have been evacuated. The bridge in the town, connecting north and south Idukki district, has been flooded due to incessant heavy rainfall in the region.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, says, “I spoke to Kerala CM, he is fully satisfied with the assistance of the central government and he has told me that every department is cooperating well. If he needs any other assistance he will inform me.”
Those who are in Idukki district, has to contact the district authorities or the tourism dept if they require any help. There’s no need to panic, instead be cautious and avoid fragile places,” Kerala tourism minister said.
Heavy rains for the past two days and release of water from the Idamalayar dam yesterday, resulted into localised flooding in low-lying areas in the northern districts of Kerala. The flood water also triggered landslides at some places.
