Delhi violence: Shoot-at-sight order issued in North East district
A shoot-at-sight order has been issued in the violence-hit areas of North East Delhi in view of the clashes over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in the city.

As the violence continued to simmer in North East Delhi over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), a shoot-at-sight order in the clashed-hit areas in the city. The orders to shoot the rioters on sight have been issued in the North East district where violence cut a swathe through several localities, including Chand Bagh and Bhajanpura, with stones and other missiles hurled and shops set ablaze.
The shoot-at-sight order was announced by the Delhi Police SP in Yamuna Vihar area in Delhi. In the announcement, the SP said that a curfew has been imposed in four areas of North East district of Delhi and shoot orders have also been issued.
At least 13 people have been killed and over 180 injured as fresh violence tore through North East Delhi over the amended citizenship law. In view of the continued violence in the city, curfew has been imposed in four violence-hit areas — Jaffrabad, Maujpur, Chand Bagh, and Karawal Nagar — of Delhi.
Clashes broke out between groups supporting and opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act in North East Delhi’s Jaffrabad and Maujpur on Monday, with protesters torching houses, shops and vehicles, and hurling stones at each other. The clashes continued on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, in view of the violence, the district administration in Ghaziabad has sealed three borders adjoining North East Delhi and shut down bars and pubs in Ghaziabad. Traffic movement from Shahdara towards Apsara border has been closed after barricading by UP police. Traffic has been diverted towards Surya Nagar.
Anti-CAA protesters have vacated road outside Jaffrabad metro station where they had launched a sit-in since Saturday night, Delhi Police said.
Senior IPS officer SN Srivastava has been appointed as Special Commissioner (Law and Order) of Delhi Police, with immediate effect. His appointment came at a crucial time as communal violence is raging in parts of Delhi for the last two days.
Earlier in the day, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also held a meeting with Delhi LG Anil Baijal, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik among others over the violence and prevailing situation in areas of Delhi.
