A Dalit man and his family, in Karnataka’s Vijayapura District, were mercilessly beaten with sticks and stones by a mob for touching a bike belonging to a man of upper caste.
The incident took place on Saturday. The victim reported the incident to the police and a complaint was filed. Senior police officer Anupam Aggarwal said an atrocity case was reported in Talikote about assault on the Dalit man from Minaji village. “It was alleged that when he accidentally touched the bike of a man who belonged to the upper caste, that he and his family members were assaulted by some 13 men,” he said.
A case has been registered under SC/ST Act and sections 143, 147, 324, 354, 504, 506, and 149 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Meanwhile, a video of the incident has emerged. It shows a mob of men standing very close to each other and raining blows on the family. Some men can be seen pinning the man to the ground and beating him ruthlessly.

Karnataka tops the list of states for atrocities against members of Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities. Superiority and inferiority complexes as well as feudal mentality is sadly deep-rooted in the society even in 2020.
