Report By: Nandika Chand

The Center has ordered Patanjali Ayurveda Ltd, a company owned by yoga guru Baba Ramdev, to stop advertising products claiming to cure COVID-19. Ramdev launched two products, Coronil and Swasari yesterday.

He told the media that Coronil and Swasari were developed based on research and trials on 280 patients across the country. The yoga guru even claimed that the two medicines can cure COVID-19 patients within 14 days.

“We have prepared the first Ayurvedic-clinically controlled, research, evidence and trial-based medicine for COVID-19,” Ramdev said. “We conducted a clinical case study and clinically controlled trial, and found 69% patients recovered in 3 days and 100% patients recovered in 7 days.”

AYUSH Minister Shripad Naik said its a good thing that Baba Ramdev has given a new medicine to the country but as per rule, it has to come to AYUSH ministry first.

The ministry has also asked Patanjali to provide details of the medicines such as its composition, sample size, sites and hospitals where the research study was conducted and also for the Institutional Ethics Committee clearance.

Ramdev’s associate Acharya Balakrishna took to Twitter to say that the communication gap has been filled. He said 100% parameters laid down for controlled trial of the Ayurvedic product have been followed. Balakrishna said the company has followed all the standard parameters of Randomized Placebo Controlled Clinical Trials.

The Ancient Times

Because we’re journalists, we’re impatient. We want to gather the news as quickly as possible, using any technological resource available. And when we’re as sure of the story as we can be, we want to share it immediately, in whatever way reaches the most people. The Internet didn’t plant these ideas in our heads. We’ve always been this way.
