Bar Council of India Shall pay Rs. 5000/- Stipend to New Advocates

There is aid at hand, ultimately, for apprentice Advocates fight to live in their preliminary years of advocacy.

For the first time in the history of Judicial System, the Bar Council of India has assured to address the misery of fresh entrants in the Bar Council by providing Five thousand rupees as a basic allowance per month, for a period of 5 years.

The decision in favour of introducing the plan was passed at a combined discussion of the members of the Bar Council of India, chairmen/vice chairmen of the various state bar councils and presidents of every High Court bar association, held recently in New Delhi (capital of India).

The stipend would be for new entrants who join the Bar and for a tenure of at least 5 years. “The stipend scheme can be linked with the LSA Act, 1987,” the minutes of the meeting stated.

The lawyers who accept the stipend can assist unprivileged litigants by providing legal help, it said. The decision also called for making suitable amendments in the LSA Act, 1987 so that new entrants, various state bar councils, various Bar Associations get an opportunity to play vital roles.
