Security forces in two separate operations killed nine terrorists of the Hizbul Mujahideen in J&K’s Shopian district. A senior police official said four terrorists were neutralised in the encounter operation that took place in Pinjora area of Shopian. He said five terrorists were killed in a 12-hour long encounter in Reban village, about 12km from encounter site in Pinjora, of Shopian on Sunday. “The operation was underway when hiding militants opened fire on troops. The fire was retaliated by forces, triggering a gunfight,” the officer said.
Dilbag Singh, J&K director general of police, said nine big operations were carried out in the last two weeks, in which 22 terrorists including six top commanders have been eliminated. He said in the latest gun battle, the security forces recovered the bodies of four terrorists in Pinjora with arms and ammunition.

“9 #terrorists including two commanders neutralised in less than 24 hours. Proud of #TeamKashmir which includes JKP and SFs,” the Kashmir zone police tweeted. The anti-militancy operation was jointly launched by the police, army and paramilitary CRPF after intelligence inputs about presence of militants in the area.
The police is now following a new policy of not revealing the identity of the terrorists killed or their group affiliation to prevent youngsters from joining terrorist ranks.
