Jeremy Corbyn, UK’s long-standing champion for the Palestinian cause, fears the US President’s plans are so extreme that if rejected outrightly, it would still pave for an illegal land grab. “In reality, the Trump plan is actually a continuation of the demands of the right in Israel politics,” the former leader of the Labour Party said.

In Februaury, Corby had slammed the UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson for taking a contradictory stance on the Middle East peace plan. Johnson had said the plan should be given a genuine and fair consideration. He then clarified that UK’s position on Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank has not changed. “These settlements are illegal under international law, present an obstacle to peace, and threaten the physical viability of a two-state solution,” the PM said.

British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab called it a serious proposal and warned Israel that any moves towards annexation would be damaging to renewed efforts to restart peace negotiations. Rabb said it would be contrary to international law.

Corby pointed out that Israel has continuously put in more and more settlements, denied the Palestinian people their rights of access to land, built a wall through farms and have made it impossible to run a sustainable farm. He said Israel has also put the people of Gaza under siege. “There is a sense of anger among the Palestinian people,” the leader said which people around the world could not understand.
